Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or visiting Japan for the first time, discovering a place loved by locals like Ureshino can make your trip truly special. Let’s dive into what makes this town so unique!
Excellent Access by Shinkansen
With the Kyushu Shinkansen now stopping in Ureshino, getting there is easier than ever. It’s just a short ride from major cities like Fukuoka and Nagasaki, making it an ideal weekend trip or a relaxing stop on your Kyushu itinerary.
Since the West Kyushu Shinkansen Ureshino-Onsen station opened in September 2022, it’s still hidden from a lot of foreigners. Enjoy a less crowded town, and experience like a local!
Convenient, Walkable Hot Spring Town
Ureshino’s compact onsen town is very convenient. You can easily explore its charming streets and attractions on foot, making it a perfect destination for leisurely strolls.
Private Onsen Options for Day-Trippers
Ureshino is especially accommodating for day-trippers, offering many private onsen that can be rented by the hour. This is perfect for those who want to enjoy a relaxing soak in privacy without staying overnight, or hopping onsens one to the other.
Save with the “Youyou Ureshino” Onsen Pass
For those looking to explore multiple hot springs, the “Yuyu Ureshino” onsen pass is a fantastic option. You can get 16 tickets for ¥2,000. This ticket allows visitors to enjoy various onsen facilities in the area at a discounted rate, making it an affordable way to experience the best of Ureshino’s hot springs.
Stylish and Comfortable Hotels
Ureshino’s hotels are a blend of tradition and modern comfort. Many accommodations have undergone stunning renovations, offering guests beautiful, clean, and functional spaces to relax. Whether you’re seeking a chic hotel or a cozy ryokan, there’s something for everyone.
Famous Ureshino Tea and Unique Tea-Themed Ryokan

Ureshino is also known for its high-quality green tea, and this local specialty is celebrated in many innovative ways. Several onsen ryokan in the area incorporate tea into their offerings, such as baths infused with tea leaves, hot springs where you soak with tea bags, or even baths where hot water flows from a Kyusu (Japanese teapot). You’ll also find baths inspired by traditional Arita porcelain tea sets, adding a touch of artistry to your relaxation.
Famous for Onsen Yudofu (Hot Spring Tofu)

One of Ureshino’s culinary highlights is onsen yudofu, a delicacy made by simmering tofu in hot spring water. The minerals in the water give the tofu an incredibly soft and creamy texture, making it a must-try dish for any visitor.
I personally highly recommend you to stop by a restaurant “Saga Hirakawaya”. You can enjoy all-you-can eat yudofu, and also you can enjoy some tofu sweets! Tofu soft cream is wonderful!
A Peaceful Escape Without the Crowds
While Ureshino attracts international visitors, it remains much quieter than other famous onsen destinations, such as Hakone, or Beppu. You’ll enjoy a peaceful atmosphere with no long lines at shops or attractions, allowing you to truly unwind and soak in the local culture.
Whether you’re looking for rejuvenation, delicious local food, or a unique cultural experience, Ureshino offers it all. Discover the charm of this hidden onsen town and treat yourself to a memorable getaway in a paradise for beautiful skin in Japan!
